Some people simply have very loud voices: Loud
Howard<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emeBWkgr3pc&feature=related>

We were walking on the beach yesterday, into the wind. We were followed by
a woman
about 20 yards behind us who was having problems with her divorce, was
very angry
at her husband, having troubles with her kids, and also had a nasty medical
condition.
I knew this because she was yelling into her cell phone.

The explosion in cell phone use and need for constant contact was certainly
enabled
through some very slick marketing. First it was the nerds with the giant
handheld
sets, then the stylish wealthy, then everyone else and their children.

I think one of the strongest catalysts was fear. 9/11 scared many people
and connecting
to the family became very important. That was followed by the devastation
of
Katrina, where we all witnessed the need for mobility and independence.

The quality of technology has certainly improved over the original giant
handhelds
and the device is more than just a phone, it is an information conduit.
What has
not improved or evolved is the human voice. Some people are simply loud.
