Hi-
A woman called me today regarding the small library she runs at a juvenile justice program. (She is not a librarian). She wants to reorganize her library. The books consist of paperbacks and hardcover textbooks, and there are 10 computer stations.
I am looking for books and articles, but I was wondering if there was anyone who had worked in this type of library before who can share any experiences or advice I could pass along. Some of the concerns she mentioned were the best way to get the kids to put materials back where they belong; how to shelve paperbacks so that they stay reasonably orderly (the library is in a trailer, so there's not a lot of room for racks); and whether or not its worth putting the old card pockets in the back of the books as a means of keeping track of them. Apparently occasional room searches are the only way of finding books that haven't been returned.
Any advice or how best to organize the library and serve her patrons would be appreciated.
Also, can anyone recommend a good blog or listserv? Thanks
