[Publib] a few happy words about Friday, the Beatles, and the long weekend

Dear friends and colleagues,
I am sending this to child_lit and to PubLib, and it won't be
witty like John Richmond or hilarious like Joe Schallan or
erudite like Michael Joseph or inimitable like Resa, but it will
be heartfelt and I hope at least a little amusing.
The semester has already started online at Rutgers. I have,
however, encouraged my online students to take the weekend
off. Because I would like the weekend off.
I need a long weekend. I have an allergy-induced cold, a sore
throat, and a single mosquito in my home office aerie that I
cannot kill and which has now attacked me seven times.
I have read a couple of good books this week, I have written a
funny little thing about online teaching. I have played with
iTunes. I hope to see Ponyo. But mostly this weekend I am
anticipating with exquisite longing the arrival of the Beatles
Box of Everything. I intend to play it loud for many days. Put
it on my iPod. Quote many lyrics. Rejoice.
We can read a really stupid article on CNN about libraries (I
suggest we all fill their comments with witty, sharp, and lucid
remarks rather than despair to each other) or we can think
about how great it will be to have the Beatles box, a glass of
Sancerre, and a really good story.
Have a fine weekend.
Randomly and with affection,
