Back in the day in Richmond Virginia  the paper had a sort of crossword
puzzle contest called, I think, cashwords.  The clues were intentionally
ambiguous.  One lady came in to the main library regularly and would stand
at the unabridged dictionary and laboriously pursue every clue.  She usually
wore a maroon dress and a sort of turban like hat in the same color.  She
was known as "The Hat."  

 

I don't know whether she ever won the prize money or not, but I suppose the
effort aided her vocabulary.

Years ago we had a patron who wore a tiara and a headscarf whenever she came
in.  Our reference desk was high and marble topped and she would always
genuflect toward us when she entered.  We called her "Tiara"  and
appreciated that she showed appropriate respect for reference librarians (
at least that was our story!)

We have patron who years ago wore a T-shirt from Camp David.  We still call
him Camp David.  Another is Flip Flop Lady after her noisy shoes.  

 

Any other funny names?
