We allow circulation on both of our floors, but have a circ services 
desk on only one. With staff in short supply, we worked to cut the 
number of service desks.

Up stairs has a self check, so that children and parents can handle 
things without leaving the Children's Room area, but fines/fees/rentals 
must be handled on the lower level at the service desk. Upstairs staff 
can handle address checks, renewals and anything that doesn't involve 
money, so the self check is constantly staffed, but by staff busy doing 
other things and just keeping an eye on it.

So our cash register is at the one circ services desk. We make up for 
that efficiency by having another register at our coffee house, but 
better two than three.
