:) Yes, we need to learn how to use tweets and other web 2.0 tools to market our libraries and services.
Anyone planning to participate in the Thursday, 10/5 webinar by Philanthropy Today on "Smart Social Media Strategies for Nonprofit Groups: How to Use Facebook and Twitter to Raise More Money"? I'm trying to get a small group of interested and web 2.0 savvy librarians and FRIENDS in my county to join together to watch it in my library's instruction lab. According to the registration info, one location can register and a roomful of people can participate so it is ideal for staff development. See http://tinyurl.com/yjwd78k
According to the Chronicle, this Webinar will provide a practical roadmap on how to:
* Build an effective presence on Twitter and Facebook in 15 minutes per day. Turn short messages into viral campaigns that can spread quickly.
* Take simple steps to get your entire organization to use social networks - and adjust to a new, more interactive way of communicating.
* Raise more money using online social networks.

Hello. I'm returning to PubLib after being away for about a year. Times are crazy. I retired and accepted several library project management opportunities that kept me busy. One of my personal, fun 2009 projects was to convert my Book and Library Lover Gift Guide HOTLIST to a blog format. I've checked links, added new items and hope you will enjoy. I'm also experimenting with Google Adsense to see how many pennies can accumulate for a library association -- and the appropriateness of the ads that get placed on this and other blogs.
Anyway, check out http://gifts4booklovers.blogspot.com and let me know offline how you like it. Last year, several libraries told me they used it to drive visitors to their own websites and blogs. By now, many of you are Tweeting or using tools like Tweetfeed to promote your sites.
Enjoy!
