Want a successful One Book event that relates to current events?

 

The Avon Public Library has just completed a project that we did in
conjunction with our middle and high schools to host two Lost Boys.  We
hosted Alephonsion Deng and Benjamin Ajak, two of the authors of THEY POURED
FIRE ON US FROM THE SKY: a memoir of three lost boys from the Sudan in early
October.  The book was chosen as a One Book title, as well. 

 

Our public evening event was attended by 500 people; during the day the
authors visited both our middle and high schools. They stayed for two days
AT AN EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE RATE and changed the lives of all who listened.
Both men were punctual, organized, and thorough in their explanation of
surviving Genocide in the Sudan and adjusting to life in America.
