Rhode Island has a huge influx of tourists during the summer. Not only do
they generate general retail
revenue, but they also contribute to the tax base through hotel room taxes.
12% State 1% Local
It seems counter-productive to make their visits to the library less
friendly when you really want them
to return again and again. The ratio of their tax contribution relative to
services consumed is much higher
than most residents. For example, they do not use school services.
A library can be a great, supporting, welcoming asset to any tourist
economy.
