"Providing access for all"-what does this mean for libraries who are
striving to accommodate patrons with some functional differences?
If you or your library are interested in finding out more about creating
physical, communication and information environments that minimize
limitations and maximize the library experience for all types of
patrons, we encourage you to attend ASCLA's upcoming midwinter
institute:
"Breaking Down Barriers: Best Practices in Universal Design for
Libraries"
Friday, Jan. 15, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Hosted by the Institute for Human Centered Design
located at 200 Portland Street, Suite 1, in Boston.
The topic of this event has become even more timely as a result of the
recent economic crisis, which has brought people to libraries in record
numbers to take advantage of the unique opportunities, experiences and
services available there. The agenda includes presentations on an array
of best practices in universal design, including opportunities for
experiential learning and a forum for presenting your library's
universal design problem or aspiration and receiving on-the-spot
consultation and solutions.
More information about this engaging half-day workshop, including
registration rates, is available at the ASCLA blog:
