Rather than straight food for fines we have had success at the beginning of the school year during National Library Card Sign Up Month doing School Supplies for  fines with the materials going to some of the children's homes or doing Pet Food for Fines going to the local animal shelters.  We will only erase fines for overdues, not lost, damaged or ILL fines.
