[Publib] DVD players loaned to patrons?

My library loaned a VCR when I started working here, but use had
already dropped dramatically by that time. I would recommend keeping
your DVD loan period in mind when creating a loan period for a player.
Doesn't work out well to have to return the player before the DVDs.

Not sure if some sort of deposit should be used, as I think that sort
of thing is a judgment call in each community. I do think some might
want to "keep" it if you allow renewals and checkouts as soon as it's
turned back in. That would be something to keep in mind as well,
though it's highly possible most use would be from people doing
presentations or with DVD players that are on the fritz and not yet
replaced.

I think the biggest problem with loaning DVD players wouldn't be the
cost, because a very cheap basic one is about the list price of a book
these days, but having to explain how to set the machine up.

Everyone has a different setup with their TV, so they may not have the
proper plugs to connect a DVD player. If they do, they may not
understand *how* to connect it. If the DVD player comes with
instructions with good visual instructions, I highly recommend making
a copy and laminating them to include in a tote bag with the machine.
