We schedule circ staff to come in for an hour or two and empty it a few
times on the rare occasions when we're closed.

Subject: [Publib] question for the masses

With the holidays fast approaching, I have a question for the brain
trust. Do you lock your book drops when closed for holidays? We do
here but patrons are trying their best to pry into them - one even broke
off the padlock. The reason they are locked is because we are closed
for two days in a row and the book drop would become too full.

If you do leave them unlocked (in a former library job, we did - I just
went in and emptied it) but we are talking about a very large number of
books, entailing several people to empty the drops on days off at the
four branches if we left them unlocked. It has been suggested in-built
book drops but the managers seemed worried about fire and liquids being
"returned."

Can anyone give me a clever solution or any advice?

Thanks to all.
