Did you know?

Genealogical research is one of the primary patron uses of the reference
desk, and remains one of the most time consuming reference desk duties
in public libraries, especially for those generalist desks that do not
have genealogy or history specialists on staff. Academic librarians who
service students assigned local history projects quickly learn that
genealogy sources are often the primary tools available for that
research.

The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) can help expand the
skill set and increase the efficiency of your reference desk with two
exciting genealogy professional development opportunities.

"Genealogy 101" - an online course taught by genealogy expert and RUSA
member Jack Simpson

Registration for this online learning opportunity closes tomorrow,
Thursday, November 5!

This asynchronous online course will be held Nov. 9 - Dec. 23 (includes
an extra week for the Thanksgiving holiday), and is an excellent
learning experience for those wanting to acquire or brush up on the
basics of genealogy reference. Students log in and complete work at
their own pace. Group discounts are available-contact Liz Markel
(lmarkel at ala.org) for more info.

More course information is available at the RUSA website.
