[Publib] Michigan-based Adventure series

I have a patron looking for a paperback series of historical fiction based in Michigan that he read in the late 1970's / early 1980's.  In each book, the characters lived or traveled through a different part of our state.  One part was based in Mackinaw, one in Detroit, and so on.  There were at least 5 books to the series and they were adventure novels, not romance.  He remembers battles and war in the books.  He cannot remember the author or any of the individual titles.

Any ideas of what series this patron is looking for?
