The type of garden was not specified in the post, so I'm not sure this falls
within your scope.
The Addison Public Library (Illinois) constructed its new library building
with a green roof. Its primary purpose is to reduce rain runoff , but the
garden also reduces the amount of summer heat transferred through the roof.
The perennial plants are currently mostly utilitarian varieties, but can be
replaced easily to incorporate more decorative and seasonally flowering
varieties. A photo of the green roof is part of the slide show on the
library's
home page <http://www.addisonlibrary.org>.
