We started our non-fiction book group approx. 10 years
ago. We started with approx. 10 in the group, mixed, both
men and women. This group still meets today with several
original members and usually has anywhere from 10 to 16
participants. It has always attracted men whereas our
fiction group is all women. We started the fiction group
due to patron requests about 5 years ago. It took longer to
build a core group and even today sometimes has 6 people
(last night) and sometimes as many as 11.
Book group participation is an interesting subject. As one
responder noted it may take time to build a core group. I
would be interested in hearing some suggestions to promote
the group.
