We've been having luck with a Classics Discussion Group. It started last year when PBS/Masterpiece was doing the Jane Austen run of films. We started with all 6 Austen books (and followed up with a film series of as many as we could get licenses for) and moved on from there. We meet once a month for 1 1/2 hours and do either several books from an author or a "subject". So far we've done Austen, Dickens, Wharton, and session of mysteries -- Christie, Doyle, and Sayers. This summer we're doing Wanton Women (Sister Carrie, The Scarlet Letter, The Awakening and The Yellow Wallpaper, and Madam Bovary) and for the fall Soldier Boys (Red Badge of Courage, All Quiet on the Western Front, and The Caine Munity).

We are a community of about 18,000, and we regularly draw between 10 and 16 people a month to this group, which for us is fantastic. We have a core of regulars and have recently gotten some new folks starting. There are 3 of us who share moderating duties, and we have a great time.

Subject: [Publib] Book Clubs

We have tried many different book club types, audiences, times, days, etc and just aren't having much luck building a steady club.. anyone willing to share what types of book clubs have been successful for your library? Any tips?
Thanks!
