Ann, thank you for mentioning this one. It's a favorite, whether for seniors or 4th graders!

How about A Long Way From Chicago by Richard Peck? The novel is composed of independent episodes in the lives of Joey and his little sister when they visit their Granda Dowdel in a small town in Illinois. They take place between 1929 and 1942, and are all so funny! I especially like the one about the funeral they put on for "Shotgun" somebody... Seniors would enjoy them, too--you might talk with them about similar episodes from their own pasts.

I'm preparing for my first adult story time at a local senior center. For those of you out there who do adult story times for seniors can you please recommend some authors? I will probably read something funny, but feel like I haven't found just the right thing yet. I might also read something more serious, a short story perhaps.
Any help would be appreciated,
