[Publib] Adult Story times author suggestions please...

I have loved Lunch at the Piccadilly by Clyde Edgerton since I heard him read from the manuscript at ALA Annual years ago.  Anything that is hilarious AND set in a nursing home should have some senior appeal.  What does everyone think?

Other authors that come to mind include Alexander McCall Smith, John Krakauer, Mitch Albom, Diane Mott Davidson, Richard Paul Evans, Sue Monk Kidd, and Ray Bradbury.

On the short story front, look into a collection of Westerns such as The Untamed West or The Golden West.  And don't forget to hit some of the classic authors, I'd start with F. Scott Fitzgerald, as they have almost all written a short story or two.  Also, read about the Short Story Challenge at http://www.theshortstory.org.uk/diaries/  And with romance being such a huge genre, check out http://www.thenonesuch.com/stories.htm

I’m preparing for my first adult story time at a local
senior center. For those of you out there who do adult story times for seniors
can you please recommend some authors? I will probably read something funny,
but feel like I haven’t found just the right thing yet. I might also read
something more serious, a short story perhaps.

Any help would be appreciated,
