Reminds me of the time a child was running around the library barefoot.
When I told the mother that children had to wear shoes she said that the
kid had a fungus infection and was supposed to keep the feet aired.
But seriously, I've been doing some research this morning and have found

I don't think it's an unreasonable precaution, especially since parents
seem to have few qualms about bringing sick children to the library,
even when they are being kept "home" from school because of an illness.
Yesterday, two of our circulation staff overheard a mother talking about
how her twins--who she had just brought to story time--had been vomiting
the night before
