We have removed toys and puzzles from the children's area for the time
being, and I have taken a break from using props that the kids share
during story times (beanbags, puppets, etc.) I don't think it's an
unreasonable precaution, especially since parents seem to have few qualms
about bringing sick children to the library, even when they are being kept
"home" from school because of an illness. Yesterday, two of our
circulation staff overheard a mother talking about how her twins--who she
had just brought to story time--had been vomiting the night before.
Removing items that are likely to be handled or even placed in mouths by
very young children seems a reasonable step toward tryting to minimize the
spread of germs given the many unknowns about this particular virus.
