Hello,
We have partnered with our local Barnes & Noble Booksellers for the last
four years. In the beginning BN would come to our library to sell copies of
books during author visits.
The last three years, they have partnered with us for Northern Kentucky:
One Book One Community. The two local stores create displays, advertising
the book discussions and other programs, and hang posters about the One Book
Program. They even offer a discount on the purchase price of the chosen
book. They have been instrumental in getting the libraries involved better
discounts for our bulk purchase of the titles and one year even negotiated
the release of a title in Large Print. It had never been released as Large
Print before. This year, BN is sponsoring a writing contest as part of the
One Book program, providing all the prizes. Over the last three years, BN
has worked with us on book fairs to help off set the cost of the One Book
Program. This year the http://www.nkyonebook.org/ website is being designed
and updated by a BN employee.
In addition to One Book, BN also works with our library on the adult summer
reading program. They donate gift cards to be used as prizes and hand out
our summer reading flyers and packets int heir store.
Our local BN is great to work with and seems eager to help advertise our
programs. I will say this has not always been possible. It seems to depend
on the manager and what they are willing to do for you and with you. If I
understand correctly, the manager has to fill out a lot of paperwork for
corporate to be involved with the library the way they are.

Has anyone partnered with bookstores. What type of partnering have you done
and how has it worked out?
