I used to sneer at the MySpace/facebook use of band width. Then my son's
friend stationed in California setup a facebook page to keep his family and
friends informed about his wedding. It was an important tool for him to
keep everyone informed. I'm also seeing more students required to start
pages for various college classes.
Many of our patrons who are using the computers while talking on the cell
phone are taking care of banking business or talking to their cell phone
provider.
I confess to becoming more and more irritated with people who ask me a
question but are still carrying on a cell phone conversation. I'd like to
say, 'I'll be glad to help once you're finished with your phone call.'

We have found that a library is not an end in itself, but a means to many
ends.

Subject: [Publib] Attitudes in the Library.
At our local library, I see countless folks on their cell phones and abusing
computer time by playing Flash Games and using Facebook. I guess it is well
within their right for people to use the local libraries internet, but it
would seem only fair that those that are doing research projects get first
priority; of couse I can imagine the headache that thi would be for the
library staff.
Thoughts?
