As a slightly different take on this -- our youth services department has
one computer dedicated to homework use. All of the other terminals can be
reserved by young patrons for playing games or doing homework as they
choose. I think it's great that there's definitely one dedicated terminal,
so that if a student comes in to write a paper because they don't have a
computer at home, there's at least one spot guaranteed to be held for them
(as long as another homework user isn't already using it!).
I agree with the other folks who have said that people who reserve computer
time should be able to use the computers for whatever (legal) purpose they
choose. But particularly in the youth services department, I think it's nice
to have *something* set aside for a different priority.
Just my opinion!
