[Publib] Commercial Kitchens

Here in Little Rock, the fire marshal goes ballistic at the word "kitchen" when it is used in a library context. Thus, any such facility that is built in conjunction with a meeting room is called a "warming area." In a warming area, we can have most any type of kitchen appliance except a cook top. The large meeting room at the Main Library, the most complete of any of our "kitchens," has electric ovens, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a garbage disposal. Meeting rooms at branches and staff break areas have variations on these appliances.
The only thing different with our commercial food vendor is that a grease trap is required, and they have a convection oven, in addition to a microwave. There is also the usual coffee equipment.
Food consumed in meeting rooms is not prepared on site. At the Main Library, food must be provided by a caterer; in branches, a more casual approach is permitted. But in either case, plenty of counter space is the most useful thing to have.
Hope this helps...

Hi All,
Thanks for your responses to my Genealogy Library question. My next question regarding the construction of our new library has to do with kitchens. For those of you who have a café/public meeting room situation do you have a commercial kitchen to accommodate those areas? If so, are you happy with it? Has it caused any unforeseen issues? If you don't have a commercial kitchen, what were your reasons for not getting one? Thanks for any help you can send my way.
