[Publib] Call number changes in floating environment

Posted to multiple lists, please excuse duplication.
 
How do those of you (catalogers/tech services staff) in libraries with floating collections handle call number changes?  Did the implementation of floating change the guidelines you follow for making call number changes?  Currently we are reserving in all copies of an item to tech services for call number or label changes and this is taking up a lot of staff time.  
If your library has come up with a better solution and would be willing to share information about the process, please contact me offlist.  Any responses or documentation on best practices you could share with us would be greatly appreciated.
