[Publib] job hunting

I'm in the process of planning a workshop. I'm going to focus on how to
find job ads online and how to apply for jobs online and unemployment (and
set up emails if they don't have them). We've had a lot of people coming
in to apply for jobs online at the public computers and I end up having to
walk them through it. Then we get to the point in the application to put in
the email and I find out they don't have an email. Lately I've been helping
people apply for unemployment, social security and other related benefits.
The closest office to apply for benefits is an hour away.

I'm going to touch on resumes briefly but I'm using the Resume builder that
comes with Ebsco's COIN career library. It's easy to use and doesn't
require MS Word knowledge.

It seems like I'm lumping a lot into one workshop and may find I'm trying to
cover too much.

And I'm quickly building a job hunting page for our website.

Other than our YA librarian, I'm the only really "computer" literate person
in the library. I teach beginning computer classes when I have time but
have found two wonderful volunteers who are teaching them now.

I'd love to hear other ideas for job hunting workshops.

Subject: [Publib] job hunting

Greetings!

Many public libraries have seen an influx of people coming through our
doors, especially those that are out of work. At my library we have done
some online job hunting seminars as well as outreach to outplacement firms.
I was wondering what other libraries are doing, or thinking of doing, to
help those searching for jobs. Thank you.
