I would be interested in the comments on this. We've talked about this but
I haven't had a chance to look into it.

Subject: [Publib] Does leasing computers save money and/or improve
publicaccess?

Greetings.

As part of the Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study, several
libraries have reported in site visits and focus groups that they are
looking at or beginning to lease computers for public access instead of
buying. In some cases, this is simply because the library is a city or
county department, and the decision was made outside the library's control.

I would love to hear from folks that are leasing computers and/or amortizing
funding streams to keep their technology current on a set
cycle..particularly now when funding is getting tighter for most public
agencies. If there isn't a cost savings, is there any improvement in the IT
support with leasing or other benefit that makes it worthwhile? If you tried
it and it didn't work, what was the most significant hurdle?

Thanks in advance. Best, Larra
