Hi Bonnie,
See my answers below.
1. How many hours is the standard workweek in your library? 40
hours. Staff that work 6 or more hours take a 30 minute unpaid break.
2. Does your library pay overtime (time and a half or other)? If
so, is it paid to both exempt (professional) staff and non-exempt? We
pay overtime for non-exempt staff but all overtime must be pre-approved
by the supervisor. There are very few times that I authorize OT pay. If
we are doing a required training and the staff can't adjust hours
because we don't know the exact length of the training is one instance.
Otherwise, staff adjust hours accordingly. Exempt staff work the hours
needed to get the job done and as such, are not entitled to overtime or
comp time.
3. Does your library award comp time in lieu of overtime pay? If
so, is it a 1 for 1 trade, e.g. , 1 hr. overtime = 1 hr. comp time? We
don't do comp time.
4. If your library awards comp time, does it do so for both exempt
(professional) staff as well as non-exempt?
