What you see as a member of the list is only what people post. I think
about 90% of the postings
are from about 1% of the members. If you receive a message from someone at
OCLC, it goes
directly to list members - not though the same path you receive
messages from the list. You cannot
respond to it - since it is an OCLC generated list derived from the members.
They can see archive traffic and searches and have a list of all current
members and their addresses.
Karen's follow up message says that 'many vendors ARE on this list'. That
is because she can
see who they are. You cannot - nor can any of the vendors such as Thompson
and Gale who subscribe.
And, yes, we do want vendors to know what we want. However, they do not
have equal access.
