[I] [Publib] Policy question - alcohol - served.

Our city does not have many parks, as I remember as a child from a larger city.
It is possible there could be a no alcohol policy at these parks. I seem to remember seeing those kind of signs at the city parks of my childhood.
However, our city owns several nice facilities (buildings &/or surrounding grounds) that are often rented for weddings or wedding receptions or retirement receptions or other "nice" events (upscale fundraisers)
There is frequently (even in this BIBLE BELT town) wine &/or beer served.
Cannot remember any "hard liquor" at any of the events.
Consumption is limited to those of legal drinking age, of course.
There could be a distinction between LIBRARY organized events (no alcohol)...and those by the Friends or nonLibrary groups.

Subject: [I] [Publib] Policy question
Please excuse any cross-postings.
The City of Derby is studying the feasibility of permitting alcohol to
be served in all city owned buildings with a community room. The new
library in Derby is scheduled to be opened by the end of this year and
will include a community room. The library is designated as one of the
available locations to allow special events to serve alcohol.
I have been asked by the Derby Library Board to ask Kansas libraries if
alcohol is permitted in or on the library property for special events.
If it is permitted, if I would request a copy of the policies associated
with this topic. The policies can be e-mailed to me at
judy at derbylibrary.com or faxed at the number below.
I would also like to know if your city has an ordinance that _does_
permit alcohol in some city-owned buildings, but specifically (in the
language of the ordinance) states that alcohol _cannot_ be served at
special events in the _library_ or on library property.
If the library in which you are currently working does not allow alcohol
at special event, but you have worked in a library elsewhere that did
-- any information you could provide on the management issues associated
with serving alcohol at the library would be greatly appreciated.
And if you just want to share your personal opinion about allowing
alcohol at the library, I would welcome that. The Library Board wants
varying perspectives and you may contribute an issue or point that has
not yet been considered.
Thank you, in advance, for all of your help.
Judy
