We just had this discussion on our Maine list.  Most people have covered the
same issues/concerns on this list that were raise on our listserv.  One very
important thing to do is check with your insurance company before bringing a
pet in to reside (or even visit on a regular basis) your library.  Many
people cite the "one bite rule" which in a sense gives an animal and its
owner a second chance should there be an incident.  That is no longer the
case in many states, including Maine. It is now a strict liability state.
