Worse idea: Outdoor library cat. I wouldn't keep a cat outdoors any 
more than I'd keep books. It would be at the mercy of the elements, 
other cats, disease, speeding cars, mischievous kids, overzealous 
kitty rescuers, purveyors to mad scientists and depending where you 
live, inquisitive extraterrestrials.

Show your patrons some love and keep the kitty out of the library.
Show a kitty some some and give it a real home.
