I used Polycom <http://www.polycom.com/>. It allowed us to broadcast Board
meetings and work with various academic entities over
Internet II such as MIT <http://enterpriseforum.mit.edu/>. Some of the
projects we were able to participate in included:

The Jason Project http://www.jason.org/public/home.aspx
Louisiana Wetlands
Discovering the Titanic with Robert Ballard
Anniversary of Farenheit 451 live session with Ray Bradbury (bridged with
Roger Williams U.)

Polycom also enabled you to stream to the internet, so you can broadcast and
file a copy for
future remote viewing. Because the sessions are two-way, you are able to
set up an interactive
remote classroom. Participants are able to directly ask questions and you
can set up moderation
along with whiteboard and chat. With a bridge, you can have many remote
sites.

Locally, Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI was one of the first companies to set up
Polycom.
They found it highly efficient and much safer than having personnel drive
hundreds of miles to
attend meetings. They have conference rooms set up that mirror remote
conference rooms
and are able to instantaneous interact with their counterparts. The visual
with
audio reduces abiguity in conversations that are only audio. You are able
to see and
read the people you interact with.

I wrote a manual for using Polycom in public libraries several years ago,
but I am sure that
the software is more advanced and intuitive than it was then. It sets up
about as easy as
plugging in a VCR.
