A researcher here at Covina PL comments:

This article refers to a question posted at Yahoo Answers (original
posting) by someone claiming to be a girl in high school named Kat
Atreides.  However, if you look at Kat Atreides' profile, she claims to
be a screenwriter who has had "a few companies say they're interested in
one novel I'm currently writing."  She's probably not using her mother's
account, since Ms. Atreides shows interest in the same authors in both
postings.  Some of the discussion following the Boing Boing article
casts doubt on the truth of the high school story.
