Do you mean prerequisites for admission or for the program? I couldn't
find any particular mention of Humanities requirements for admission --
granted, I only looked here:
http://www.nccuslis.org/distancelearning/dl-admission.htm
The requirements for admission to the graduate programs in Library and
Information Sciences are:
1. An undergraduate degree at the Bachelor's level (BA, BS, or
equivalent).
2. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.9 for all
undergraduate academic work (Exceptions may be made for applicants with
relevant professional experience.)
3. Two copies of the Graduate Record Examination scores, Graduate
Management Admission Test scores (joint MBA/MIS applicants only), or the
Law School Admission Test scores (joint JD/MLS applicants only)
All applicants must have taken the Graduate Record Examination, the
Graduate Management Admission Test (joint MBA/MIS applicants only), or
the Law School Admission Test (joint JD/MLS applicants only) within the
past five years. Official reports of scores must be sent to us by
Educational Testing Service.
4. Two positive letters of recommendation
And the only requirements/core courses for the program are these, which
are fairly standard, I think:
http://www.nccuslis.org/distancelearning/dl-mls.htm
LSIS 4000, Foundations of Librarianship and Information Services
LSIS 4220, Selection & Use of Information Sources
LSIS 4300, Uses and Users of Information
LSIS 4400, Organization of Information
LSIS 5120, Management and Systems
LSIS 5810, Research Methods (Should not be taken until the student is
near the end of the MLS program)
What kind of MLS does she think she wants to get?! Librarianship is a
Humanistic profession, after all! 8-)

Subject: [Publib] ? Online MLS degrees
Folks,
I know a woman who would like to earn an MLS completely online. She's
looked at NC Central, but she's a science major and NC Central has too
many Humanities prerequisites that she doesn't want to deal with.
Does anyone know of a program that's completely online that's ALA
accredited, and doesn't have heavy Humanities prerequisites?
Thanks.
