ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-OUTREACH SERVICES

TUSCALOOSA (AL) PUBLIC LIBRARY

 

An exceptional opportunity for the candidate who wants to
develop people, programs and places!  Tuscaloosa Public
Library seeks a creative and dynamic professional librarian
to become the next Assistant Director, Outreach Services.
The successful candidate will have an accredited MLS, a
minimum of five years of relevant experience and three years
of supervisory experience.  In-depth knowledge of and prior
experience with extension services and programs, branch
management and library technologies is highly desirable.
The new Outreach Services Assistant Director will have the
opportunity to work with a new, almost completed branch and
will be on the ground floor of developing strategic plans
for new branch services and programs, as well as evaluating
current branch services and facilities. The OSAD will also
experience working in both an urban and rural environment
managing the Outreach Services department.

 

The Outreach Services Assistant Director, as part of the
four member management team, is responsible for the
organization, management, supervision and effective
functioning of Outreach Services including two community
branches, Books by Mail, bookmobile service, and the Library
for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Key
responsibilities include strategic planning for the outreach
department, supervising eight direct reports, staff
recruitment and retention including performance evaluations,
training and staff development, working collaboratively to
develop alternative funding streams, collection management,
and being a contributing member of the administrative team. 

 

Tuscaloosa Public Library is a thriving library located in
Tuscaloosa, AL. This system consists of a main library, two
branches and two bookmobiles serving 167,000 people,
circulating 631,000+ items annually, with a staff of 62 FTE
and a budget of $5.2 million. One third of Tuscaloosa
residents carry TCPL cards. 

 

Starting salary range:   $45,000-52,000 with excellent
benefits.
