Oh for the old days.  A friend of mine sent me a letter he received  from 
Alfred Knopf, Jr. back in 1984.  The note was an explanation of why a  
particular book hadn't been reprinted.  Typewritten and signed on Atheneum  
letterhead.  Hey, you think you could get a note like that directly from  the 
publisher himself these days?    Good luck, Chief.  For  that matter, I was 
reading that Charles Scribner III used to attend the ALA  Annuals so he could 
find out what librarians wanted to see on their  shelves.
