Can you bring a gun into a library in your state? If not, why not? Can
librarians carry firearms in your locality? Would this be helpful at the
reference desk?

According to a story in the New York Times, you can pack a piece in a beer
joint in Arizona or Tennessee. There's only one problem:

"In both states, there is a catch. The new laws stipulate that armed
patrons have to refrain from drinking while in the bars — in effect, creating a
new category of customer, the designated shooter."

Now what fun is that? That means that if you want to shoot somebody,
you've got to leave the gun in the car if you want to drink. That ruins the
whole reason for drinking in some places--especially Arizona.

By the way, you can carry a gun into a library nearly everywhere as long as
it is not concealed and is not loaded. What would you do if somebody
strolled up to your desk carrying a revolver and asked for a copy of Shotgun
News? [and shame on you if you don't carry that publication].
