Oh, Phalbe,
I just had to take a videocassette out to the dumpster because when the case
was opened, roaches ran out (and circ staff screamed).we haven't had bed
bugs (that I know of) but we get roaches, roach egg cases, roach poop; rat
poop; silverfish; other unidentified critters and the remains thereof.heck
we had fire ants in an ILL book bag and a snake in a delivery box! We keep
some bug spray around for minor hits but generally just withdraw the item
because we are afraid that we may miss something and they will spread.
Even in this difficult budget time I have the exterminator come once a month
for spraying.this is the south, and we have bugs!

Subject: [Publib] bed bugs
Folks,
The New York Times blog "Well" recently published an article about bed bugs:
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/10/the-high-price-of-bedbugs/
It was taken from an article in the NYT:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/11/health/11patient.html?_r=1
There are 146 comments so far, some very helpful with solutions. One I
really like gives the URL of the bed bug registry!

I've been wondering when a library will have books returned with bed bugs in
them. We had one in a library in a developing country I worked in, and the
assistant sprayed it so much with insecticide that she ruined the book! LOL
But, seriously, if this starts happening, how will libraries respond? Have
any of you had any experiences with bed bugs in library books?
Thanks.
