I am not sure what is meant by young professionals. Usually, there is a
career theme/interest.
The two groups I have worked with the most are Entrepreneurs and IT
professionals.

Hand held media for people under 35 is very, very important. If you want
your library
to be friendly toward their communication devices, you should make sure
that you
web site supports handheld media. Can they log in to your catalog with
their Blackberry
or IPhone? Does you web site have a handheld media CSS style sheet that
makes
it friendly to Opera and renders so they can find information about you?
If not, interest
can be lost very quickly. As professional information management
institutions, if
you are unable to effectively deliver web based information, you don't
appear professional
or knowledgeable of current practices. Entrepreneurs and IT professionals
are cutting edge.

One of the things that I have found missing from many libraries is current
books on
social media and programming languages. Are those collections up to date?
Having
a good, current IT collection can save a ton of money for Enterpreneurs and
IT
Professionals. Old books on AOL or Dummy/Idiot books only have limited
appeal.

Locally, we have a group called RINEXUS.com that is supported by the RI
Office
of Economic Development. It hosts meetings and supports young Entrepreneurs
and IT
Professionals. The site has some pretty good information on current
practices and
expectations: http://rinexus.com
