Joe, you were supposed to burn them. You put airplane glue on them in
various places to simulate flak damage, then lit the glue. It smoked like mad
and burned with an appropriately ugly orange flicker, like the devil's
tongue. I had friends who would spend many hours constructing elaborate
models, whether cars, ships or planes--their common fate was immolation.
I always wondered why girls didn't enjoy such neat pastimes.
