We use Yahoo and while we haven't had trouble with the number of students
signing up at one time (6 is max for our class), we have had the timeout
problem. What we do now is that I explain the entire form to them, they
find an email address that will work, (and that can take over ten minutes -
no matter how many times I say that Yahoo has been around a long time and
they will need to use numbers people still try to get bill at yahoo,
juansanchez at yahoo or MikeSmith at yahoo), pick a password that works, learn
about capchas, and then at the end I have them refresh the form and fill it
out themselves. The people who are familiar with the mouse and keyboard can
do before time expires, and I pretty much tell everyone what their capcha is
and occasionally grab the keyboard from a very slow person to finish it off.
