[Publib] Inaugural Watch

Okay now. So it's the inaugural. What about the old days when the World
Series was played in the middle of the week, in actual daytime, and schools
would let children watch on television (or, for Sue Kamm, listen on the crystal
radio). Now that was important stuff. Why would I want to watch some guy
walk down the street in D.C. in cold weather and give a speech? Without beer
or peanuts.

I mean, what's happened to our priorities? An African-American is
president. Big deal. Hey, I voted for him. Every year I vote for dozens of
African-Americans on the All-Star ballot. That's democracy.

Maybe they make a big deal out of this inauguration in Washington because
the Senators (whoops, the Nationals) are so bad? And because the Republicans
have been lousy for the restaurant business?

[Does anybody remember what they used to say about the Washington team in
olden days? "First in war, first in peace, last in the American League."]

Yours here for better television programming. Even if I have never owned
one of them things.

M. McGrorty
