Paul:
We have 2 separate groups here that attract a small number of men. One of our librarians does a group she calls "Armchair Adventures". Each session is between 4 and 6 books and each has a theme having to do with travel. She's done Westward Expansion, the Middle East, Africa, and is currently offering one on seafaring adventures. She selects the books which are a mixture of fiction and nonfiction and has a few men who regularly attend.
I run the Classics Book Group which chooses an author or topic that runs for 3 or 4 months. We started with Dickens and read Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, then moved on to Wharton. Right now we're in the middle of Mystery Months starring Holmes, Poirot, and Wimsey. Our next outing will be 3 Mark Twain novels (I am getting input from the attendees on which ones they want to discuss) and our next two will be Wanton Women and Soldier Boys. I have two or three men who attend on a regular basis out of a regular attendance of 10-14 folks per month.
So far, we are having a ball.
