The Dayton Metro Library in Dayton, Ohio is seeking an Older Adult
Specialist.  

 

Job Responsibilities: Responsible for the system wide planning and
support of service to older adults and agencies that work with older
adults.  Provides direct service to older adults through the Outreach
Services Department.  Maintains liaisons with retirement communities,
senior centers, and community agencies, attends and speaks about library
services at community meetings. Develops recommendations for senior
services and provides input into policies affecting older adults.
Conducts programs for older adults, creates displays to promote use of
lobby stop collections. Evaluates, de-selects, and replaces materials in
that collection.

Job Qualifications: Knowledge of professional library principles,
methods, techniques and procedures.  Knowledge and appreciation of older
adult literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, Web sites and
other electronic media.  Knowledge of available older adult materials
and reader's interests.   Ability to plan and implement programs to
support the informational and cultural needs of older adults.  Ability
to determine patron information needs.  Knowledge of available and
emerging technologies and their application to older adult services.
Knowledge and understanding of the psychology of older adults.  Valid
Ohio driver's license (or eligibility to acquire one), acceptable motor
vehicle record, and continuous insurability required. MLS (preferred) or
its equivalent in education and experience is required.  

 

Salary and Benefits: Starting salary $37,523.2-$42,806 with exceptional
fringe benefits.

Dayton is a medium-sized city located in Southwest, Ohio, about an hour
west of Columbus and an hour north of Cincinnati. Dayton has the
cultural amenities of a larger city, including a Philharmonic Orchestra,
multiple dance and theater troupes, ethnic restaurants, museums, an
international airport and a fabulous park system.    There are 3
excellent institutions of higher learning in the immediate area.
Because of its Midwest location and smaller size, Dayton is very
