Lise, I dont know that I would sweat the small stuff. They are basically
following your rules. 5 checkouts at a time and 5 holds at a time. And if
they want to make another trip to the library a day later, let them! This
is a battle I wouldnt fight or worry about.

Subject: [Publib] Question about DVD Holds
Good morning,
We allow patrons to have 5 items on hold at any given time. We also allow a
maximum of 5 DVD checkouts per card with no renewals allowed. Recently we
have had patrons try to circumvent these limits in a couple of different
ways.
* Patron will check out 5 movies and put 5 additional movies on hold,
watch the 5 at home and come back right before the "unheld" date to return
the 5 they have and pick up the new 5 basically putting 10 DVDs out of
commission for one week.
* Patron will return a movie and then immediately put a hold on it so
they can have it back right away which isn't much different from renewing it
- just more work for the patron.
Has anyone had this problem and found a clever solution?
If we had a huge collection of DVDs it wouldn't matter much, but we don't
have a lot for our patrons and would like to have them available for
everyone. Any suggestions are appreciated.
