Just wanted to take a minute to help spread the word about Competencies on WebJunction. We actually had a press release go out recently but rather than doing a copy and paste on that we thought it might be better to just say:
"The WebJunction Library Management Competencies index is now available. This is the first in a series of indices that will link WJ course content with the staff competencies identified by several library organization."
What does that really mean? Well, I asked Betha Gutsche, Curriculum Developer and Competencies Expert at WJ to explain. In blurb form! She sent me this:
"really short:
-WebJunction connects library competencies with learning
-Library management competencies new on WJ
-Increase skills through WebJunction competencies
Less short
-Library Management Competencies on WebJunction identify key knowledge, skills, and behaviors involved in managing a library, and connect current or aspiring managers with courses and resources to increase their effectiveness.
-Use the new Library Management Competencies on WebJunction to identify and build the skills managers need be more successful in their jobs.
-WebJunction makes a dynamic connection between library management competencies and the courses or resources that will help current or aspiring managers be more successful in their jobs."
However you learn about them, Competencies have real value for you and your library so check 'em out: http://www.webjunction.org/competencies
If you have and questions let us know and we'll get back to you! And, in case you are just itching to read the press release here is a link: http://www.oclc.org/us/en/news/releases/200911.htm
