Calling all Technical Services staff in Public Libraries!

There is a lot of interest in starting, or re-starting, an ALCTS
Interest Group specifically devoted to Technical Services issues in
Public Libraries. This group could provide a home within ALA and ALCTS
for catalogers, acquisitions, and other Technical Services staff from
public libraries to meet and discuss issues that are of specific
interest to us, issues that may not currently be well represented by
programs at ALA or even PLA due to the change in the PLA structure.

In order to start a new Interest Group, the potential group needs to
present a petition to ALCTS (Association for Library Collections &
Technical Services) with a Name, a Charge, and 10 members. The name and
charge are listed below.

If you are an ALA and ALCTS member, and exploring the possibilities of
an ALCTS Interest Group is appealing to you, please send me your contact
information before February 27, 2009 so that you can be counted as a
member of the Interest Group for the petition. If the petition is
accepted, we will meet at ALA in Chicago to see what we can accomplish
together.
