>You are invited to submit a proposal for the 2009 CLA Conference. The conference is scheduled for October 30-November 2 in Pasadena. You may submit your proposal at http://cla2009.abstractcentral.com/.

>This year's conference theme is Reach Out! The Conference Planning Committee is interested in programs that highlight the best that is happening in many different fields that can aid us in becoming better and more effective libraries and librarians. We are particularly interested in sessions that will bring innovation and new skills from outside of our profession or across the spectrum of librarianship--thus we would like to see programs that highlight work that academic, special, school or public libraries are doing that can be applied to other specializations. Sample topics might include:
>
>A marketing specialist on how to develop a marketing plan on a shoestring
>An educator leading a discussion of programming to specific age groups.
>A museum curator on creating displays.
>Gaming companies on gaming in the library.
>Neiman-Marcus training staff on customer service.
>Bookstore managers on displays and marketing books.
>Web 2.0 from a non-librarian perspective.
>An elected official on advocacy that works.
>A panel of activists from various backgrounds on how libraries can better serve their communities.
>Programs in which library staff learned skills from outside resources and applied them to their staff.
>Presentation by SCORE, Chamber of Commerce or other business organizations on how libraries can help businesses and job hunters
>These ideas are only examples of the types of programs that the Conference Planning Committee would like to see. Certainly, other cutting edge programs that will teach, inspire or inform the library community are desired and will be considered.
>
>All proposals must be submitted electronically through this website: Proposals sponsored by a CLA group must be signed off by the group's chair.
>
>Please let us know if you have questions about the process for submission or about the conference. If you have problems using the submittal website, a Tech Support button is located on each webpage.
